Sail Training Fleet & Member Access
The Yacht Club maintains a diverse sail training fleet to support both adult and junior sailing programs, giving members reliable access to high-quality boats without the responsibilities of ownership. Our fleet includes 10 Optimists for youth instruction, 18 E420s and 9 FJs for team racing, fleet racing, and advanced skills development, as well as a variety of kayaks for recreational paddling and on-the-water support. These boats are used daily across our adult learn-to-sail classes, junior sailing pathways, and racing programs, ensuring consistent equipment, safe learning environments, and seamless progression for sailors of all ages.
Fleet access is designed to be simple and convenient—no trailering, storage, maintenance, or repair costs to manage. For just $30 per month in addition to membership dues, members can sail and train on club-maintained boats whenever programs or approved use is available. Boats may also be reserved for on-the-water practice during private lessons, making it easy to focus on skill development rather than logistics. It’s an accessible, cost-effective way to sail more often while letting the Yacht Club handle all the upkeep.

AYC’s Fleet

Opti's
Our fleet of 10 Optimists (Optis) is designed for young sailors ages 8–15, with an ideal sailing weight of 65–120 lbs. The Opti’s stable, single-sail design makes it the perfect platform for learning boat handling, sail trim, balance, and racing fundamentals. These boats are used for beginner instruction, skill progression, and fleet racing, giving sailors a clear pathway from first sail to confident, independent racing—all without the need for private boat ownership.

E420's
Our fleet of 18 E420s supports sailors ages 12–18, with an ideal combined crew weight of approximately 220–300 lbs. The E420’s stable hull and two-sail configuration make it an excellent platform for building advanced skills such as crew coordination, upwind and downwind sail trim, boat handling, and racing tactics. These boats are used for middle and high school team sailing, fleet racing, and advanced instruction, providing a seamless transition from youth sailing into more competitive racing—without the costs and responsibilities of owning a private boat.

Flying Juniors
Our fleet of 9 Flying Juniors (FJs) is ideal for sailors ages 14 and up, with an ideal combined crew weight of approximately 240–320 lbs. The FJ’s responsive hull and two-sail design reward precise boat handling, communication, and sail trim, making it a strong platform for advanced instruction and competitive racing. These boats are used for adult sail training, high school and collegiate-style team racing, and fleet racing, offering sailors high-quality performance and coaching without the expense or maintenance of private boat ownership.
