March 1, 2010 Wow, what a difference a year makes. The lake is almost full and I am ready to go sailing. Can't believe it has been 18 months since I have had anything to write about. Here are a few pics from the boat cleanup this weekend, and I will be adding more as we get to play with a full lake, first, a pic of a boy and his boat.

Next, an old trick, using Coke to clean off battery connections, didn't have any sandpaper or baking soda. Redneck sailing at it's finest!

Finally, the newly straight and almost clean interior of the Pearson. 'bout damn time.

July 19, 2008. YUCK!!!!! We are moving docks out to the point. Ugly pictures to follow, I am not a happy sailor.

July 6, 2008, My niece Camryn and my nephew Davis came out to the lake for the first time, and took over the jetski for a fun afternoon of swim practice and hanging out, more pics here

July 4, 2008, Wow, another birthday, I have quit counting. Deanna and the Duck helped me celebrate a quiet day/evening

June 21, 2008, My high school friend Caryl (with me in the pic below) and her husband Bruce, along with Sally from work come sailing for beer can. It turned out to be a great night, except for the broken thru-hull fitting that nearly flooded the cabin! Click here for pics

May 28, 2008, Splash, the Pearson is back in the water

May 25, 2008, The bottom job is Done! Just need to do some buffing and polishing on the sides and get Fred to put her back in the water

May 4, 2008 Kanaloa takes 2nd in the 2008 Spring Series! Thanks to David, Chris and Briel, and Frank Brazile for being round-robin crew!

May 3, 2008 The bottom job on Aphaia is well under way, click here for the full story

April 2008 Kanaloa is in second place in the Spring Series, as it stands right now, two weekends left! Thanks to Chris and Briel for being such good stand in crew two weekends ago, keeping our hopes alive with a second and third place

April 24, 2008 Breaking News! A deal has been reached for a trailer and Aphaia, the Pearson 31, will be coming out of the water for an overdue bottom job. I will be taking a lot of time off work over the next 3 weeks to get the boat done and back in the water for the summer. Along with repairing and blisters and painting the bottom with VC Offshore, I will also buff out the sides and I am considering replacing the packing on the propeller shaft. Check back for details, I promise lots of pictures

February 23, 2008, There are days I really hate boats. Actually, let me rephrase that, there are days I really hate working on boats, Aphaia is sick, house battery is shot, the head rebuild didn't work, the bilge pump is inoperative and there is water weeping in around the packing gland and there is enough algae on the bottom to feed half of California. Sigh. The only thing that did work was replacing the Harken 150 cleats on the traveler that blew up last time out. Plus, I have to rebuild the trailer for Kanaloa and get the mast back up as it is almost racing time again. I am ready for Friday Night Beer Can races again. Ok, I will quit whining now, back to work.

February 16, 2008, A very pleasant day on the lake

January 1, 2008, A blustery Red Eye Regatta, one of the few pics of me actually driving, thanks to Bruce and Susie McDonald. Click here for all the Aphaia Redeye Regatta pics from McDonald Photo

December 1, 2007 Aphaia takes the lead off the start in her class in the 2007 Wild Turkey Regatta (Photo by Suzie McDonald). Too bad the lead didn't last. Check out Aphaia's Page for more pictures

October 15, 2007 Kanaloa wins the Fall Series, the West Marine Gift Card handed out as the trophy this time looks OK next to the wrenches on the wall, but that makes it a little hard to spend. We took second place in the DogDays Series, but we only raced half the races in the series!

June 27, 2007 Pics from the Dry Sail Area Boat Move due to the flooding on Lake Travis

May 13, 2007 Kanaloa wins the Turnback Warm Up Series. Guess which is the trophy from the series!

May 6, 2007 We should rename the South Cove the "Catalina Cove"!

April 4, 2007 I need to go sailing, I need to get some water under my feet! Thanks God the lake is coming up, some 20 feet or more in the last couple of weeks. It may save the summer! Hopefully I will be out there this easter weekend, if not sailing, at least spending time on the boat.

By the way, check out the Bach's web site for their circumnavigation. They have done a wonderful job rebuilding their 75 wooden boat. Find them at http://www.kaiohana.com/

Feb 2007 A gratuitous pic of the Aphaia, Vic out for a ride with his granddaughter Kayla, charging the batteries

1/23/2007 Is anybody out there still reading this? I didn't think so, but I can't blame you, there hasn't been a lot going on for the last year. The lake is 25 feet below normal level, almost 40 feet beyond full. One of the few times I did go out, for Deanna's Birthday, we ran the boat aground, twice! We did race the 2007 Red Eye Regatta and came in dead last. Not an auspicious start to the new year.

Projects planned for this year include a bottom job on the Pearson 31, not something I am looking forward to, but it is time. Once it starts I will be updating this page regularly.

I finally broke down and bought a new lens, a Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8 Model L, I am looking forward to taking a lot more pics this year, this new lens and it's ability to shoot in low light and to shoot at F2.8 should produce some excellent shots.

7/25/2006 There hasn't been a lot going on at the lake, levels are down and I have been out of town alot this year. I haven't even raced a Friday Night Beer Can this year.

4/30/2006 Kanaloa wins the Spring Series

The trophy in it's new home!

3/19/2006 Nice day for racing, the first race was a bit of a floater until just before the last leg, when we were in a position to catch the south wind that came in and ride it for a bullet. The second race, after the RC got the course switched 180 degrees, was a once around drag race. We got to the weather mark first and were able to hold on for a second bullet on the day!

3/11/2006 NEW!!! A page with links to all the pictures I will be taking at AYC this year!

3/05/2006 Something that doesn't happen very often, Kanaloa and Aphaia, side by side. Vic was racing the Pearson, David and I were on the Catalina. There was an empty slot on the dock next to the Pearson and the rigging dock was full, so we went out to Dock 6 to hang out for a while. Pictured are two-thirds of my little fleet!

2/27/2006 Ok, not much has been going on in the last couple of months, at least not on the boats. David and I will be racing as much of the Spring Series as possible. Updates soon.

Pray for rain, the lake is really, really down, and Aphia is out on the point, getting beat up.

2/11/2006 In Annapolis, having a drink at the deserted Annapolis Yacht Club, supposed to snow 10+ inches tonight. Walked around the Naval Academy, went to Annapolis Performance Sailing.

10/09/2005 Kanaloa is back in the water! And she is FAST (scroll down to the Catalina 22 fleet results) Shown here with Super Crew David Rehberg.
